Refined walnut oil, derived from cold-pressed walnuts, is a versatile and eco-friendly medium for mixing natural earth paint colours. Its non-toxic nature ensures a safer and healthier painting experience while minimizing the environmental impact of artwork.

Offering several practical benefits, organic oil has a slow drying time, allowing better blending and workability of colors on the canvas. This feature provides artists with greater control over their work, enabling them to achieve desired effects with ease. Known for its exceptional color vibrancy retention, walnut oil contributes to long-lasting, vivid artwork.
More resistant to yellowing over time, unlike linseed oil, walnut oil maintains its clarity and color stability, ensuring that artwork retains its original appearance for extended periods. This attribute makes it an ideal choice for preserving the integrity of your artwork.
With a pleasant, mild odor, organic walnut oil enhances the overall painting experience, allowing artists to work comfortably without being overwhelmed by harsh odors.
In conclusion, refined walnut oil is an ideal medium for mixing natural earth paint colors, thanks to its non-toxic nature, slow drying time, color retention properties, resistance to yellowing, and mild odor. Incorporating refined walnut oil into the artistic process allows artists to enjoy a safer, healthier, and more enjoyable painting experience while creating beautiful, long-lasting artwork.
Exploring Walnut Oil
Walnut oil is a specialty oil with a delicate flavor, a gentle aroma, and a wealth of nutrients. It comes in two main types: refined walnut oil and unrefined walnut oil.
The refined version undergoes a process to remove impurities, resulting in a lighter taste and a higher smoke point.
On the other hand, unrefined walnut oil is a pure, cold-pressed product that retains all the rich, nutty flavor and beneficial properties of the walnut.
The Health Benefits of Walnut Oil
Walnut oil is not just a delicious addition to your diet, but it is also a powerhouse of health benefits. From supporting heart health to having anti-inflammatory effects, this oil is a boon for your body.
Regular consumption in small quantities can help maintain lower levels of blood sugar, promote skin health, and even contribute to weight management.
Walnut Oil in Cooking: High Heat, Low Risk
One of the most common uses of walnut oil is in cooking. With its high heat tolerance, it is excellent for high heat cooking such as roasting vegetables.
When used in salads, it brings out a sweet, slightly bitter taste, adding a unique twist to your regular recipes. However, remember to use it in moderation.
Just one tablespoon of this oil is rich in calories, so balance is key.
Walnut Oil: A Delicious Substitute
Walnut oil can be a delicious substitute for other oils in many recipes. Whether you're baking a sweet apple crisp or preparing a hot pasta dish, a touch of walnut oil can add a new depth of flavor.
Be it the sweet aroma of roasted walnut oil or the subtle bitterness of unrefined walnut oil, each variant has a unique profile to offer.
Walnut Oil: A Blessing for Artists As Well As Chefs
Walnut oil is renowned for its rich, delicate flavor and nutrient content. It's a specialty oil, cold pressed to retain its nutritional benefits and natural aroma. But its utility extends beyond the kitchen and into the art studio.
Artists find walnut oil to be a versatile medium, providing a smooth, buttery consistency to paints and enhancing the richness of colors.

Walnut Oil for Fine Art
When it comes to fine art, artists often seek mediums that enhance their colors without altering their consistency. Cold pressed walnut oil meets this demand perfectly.
It offers a delicate balance of thinning and drying properties, making it ideal for both oil painting and color mixing.
Using Walnut Oil in other Art Forms
Using walnut oil in art is straightforward. Artists can mix small quantities of the oil with their pigments, creating a smooth, blendable oil paint that retains its vibrancy.
Walnut oil is also a great medium for layering colors, as it dries at a moderate rate and doesn't yellow as quickly as other oils, like linseed oil.
Walnut Oil: A Sustainable Choice
Moreover, walnut oil is a sustainable and non-toxic alternative to traditional solvents used in oil painting. It's easy on the skin, doesn't emit harmful fumes, and can be safely washed off brushes and palettes with soap and water.
This makes walnut oil an excellent choice for artists who prioritize both their health and the health of the environment.
Walnut oil is a versatile and sustainable medium that offers a range of benefits to the world of fine art. Its unique properties enhance the vibrancy and texture of colors, making it an invaluable addition to any artist's toolkit.

Walnut Oil: The Artist’s Companion
Aside from its culinary uses, walnut oil is a beloved choice in the art world. It can be used to thin mixed paint, clean brushes, and create a more vibrant and alive paint due to its unique refractive index.
Unlike some other oils, it is less yellowing over time, making it a boon for preserving the integrity and longevity of artwork.
Walnut Oil: A Natural Protector for Wood
Walnut oil is also an excellent finishing oil for wood. Whether for wooden bowls, decks, or other wooden structures, the oil serves as a natural protector. It penetrates deep into the wood, protecting it from damage while highlighting its natural beauty.
Furthermore, it can be used to make natural wood stains, contributing to the aesthetics of the wooden pieces.

Finding and Storing Walnut Oil
You can find walnut oil in most grocery stores or health food stores. If you're wondering where to find walnut oil specifically, specialty oil sections are a good place to start.
Once you've stocked up, remember to store the oil in a cool place. High heat can degrade the oil's quality and lead to a bitter taste.

More Research Needed on Walnut Oil
While the health benefits of walnut oil are impressive, more research is needed to fully understand its potential. Preliminary studies show promising results, but comprehensive research could unveil even more benefits.
For now, it's clear that walnut oil is a versatile, delicious, and health-promoting oil that deserves a spot in your kitchen, art studio, and workshop.

Walnut Oil: A Step Towards Sustainable Living
Choosing walnut oil is not only a step towards healthful living, but also a stride towards sustainable living. The process of obtaining cold pressed walnut oil is eco-friendly, and choosing this over solvent-extracted oils can help reduce your environmental impact.

We take great care to ensure your products arrive in excellent condition, no matter the season. Most items in our catalog do not contain temperature sensitive ingredients and are therefore not affected by cold temperatures. These items ship normally throughout the year.
However, certain products — including our Natural Acrylik Paints, Medium, and Fluid Acryliks — can be damaged if exposed to cold temperatures during shipping. For these select items, additional precautions are taken during colder months.
What We Do to Protect Cold-Sensitive Products
To help minimize the risk of freezing in transit, we:
- Clearly label cold-sensitive products on their respective product pages
- Apply Fragile and Do not freeze stickers to encourage careful handling by carriers
- Monitor weather conditions along major points in the shipping route— although we’re not weather experts, and temperature drops can still happen.
- In some cases, hold orders during periods of extreme cold to avoid spoilage
Please note: While we go to great lengths to package and ship your items with care during cold weather, we cannot guarantee that they won’t be exposed to freezing temperatures in transit. As such, we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for cold-related damage.
How You Can Help Prevent Freezing
If your order includes freeze-sensitive products, we recommend the following:
- Check the forecast along the shipping route before placing your order
- Select Priority shipping during checkout to reduce time in transit
- Place your order between Saturday and Monday to avoid weekend delays
- Avoid ordering right before major holidays or non-delivery days, such as:December 25 (Christmas Day)December 26 (Boxing Day)January 1 (New Year’s Day)
- Ensure someone is available to receive the shipment immediately upon delivery
- Consider shipping to a business address if no one is home during delivery hours
